Report: Larian Hijau

By Aiman Cheah

Date: 15 January 2011 | Saturday | 9:00am
Venue: Kolej Antarabangsa Ibu Zain, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia
Distance: 3.5km
Time: 19:52

This run was held in conjunction with the Nature Carnival held by the UKM residential college.

There were a few runners who are not from UKM as the event was in Chap Ayam Runners blog. RM1 was donated to Malaysian Nature Society from each registration fee.

The run was flagged off after warming up session. I had a more relaxed run compared to Moonlight Jogathon. I was the last runner from the start to up to the first 200m.

Luckily enough, I did not end the race with that position. I was not fit enough and knew very well that I would not finish within the top 10 runners where the top 3 would get hampers and up to the 10th position would get medals. A certificate of participation was more than enough for me.

It would have been better if the 'nasi lemak' arrived earlier so that participants could go back after the prize presentation.

My student kept up with his good showing, finishing 5th in this race. I wish he could be consistent for the whole year as next year he may not be able to run as much as he would like to as he would be sitting for the SPM.

Generally I would say it was a good event.

Report: Larian Moonlight Jogathon

By Aiman Cheah

Date: 11 January 2011 | Tuesday | 9:00pm
Venue: Kolej Kediaman Ibnu Sina, Universiti Malaya
Distance: 3km
Time: 18:16

I came to know about this run from the newspaper. Inquired about the event but it seemed like the organizer was not so keen on public participants.

With little information, I only asked my student if he wanted to join me. Entry fee is only RM3. On site registration. Certificates for the first 120 registration which should be for the first 120 finishers. Prizes are for top 10 in each category - Men and Women.

I would say that it was a well organized race. It was sort of Pacesetters breakfast run. After the race, sandwiches, watermelon and drinks were provided. More races should be in this form I think, to promote running.

Prizes were the same for the top 10 finishers - a medal, certificate and t-shirt to commemorate Fiesta Ibnu Sina. My student just made it for the 10th placing. I was well far behind him, more than 3 minutes.

Report: 1 Utama 1 Day Out 'Fun Walk'

By Aiman Cheah

Date: 01 January 2011 | Sunday | 8:00am
Venue: Central Park, 1 Utama
Distance: 4.5km

This is a fun way to celebrate a new year with a nice number 1-1-11. My children had a good work out for the day.

We started from the back and remained at the back for almost 2km. When there was a big gap, I decided to give Akmal a lift and we caught up with the rest.

I actually miss the 'best dressed participants'. We should have gone back to the starting line when the announcement was made. The third prize was within reach as the third prize winner wore a simple Chinese costume, so are my children. Akmal with Chinese costume and Afiqah with Indian costume.

Anyway, we had fun after the race. We went to 1 Utama to have breakfast and then went for the games at the park. The children enjoyed the 'boat bumper' but the queue was too long. We were lucky to be among the first. I tried the flying fox and inflatable wall climbing. Quite scary when looking down.

Before going home by noon, I went to claim 'satay' and guppy fish. Lucky to get the fish after a long queue. I should have taken the fish earlier because those who got them earlier had bigger fish!

People of all ages and races participated in the morning walk.
