Report: Shoestring Run 2010

By Aiman Cheah

Date: 18 April 2010
Venue: SRK Bukit Kemuning (2)
Time: 7.30
Category: B Family Run (with children below 12 years old)
Distance: 3 km

My children have always enjoyed this event because of the presence of the clown. I like it because there are ample of prizes - never mind if doesn't get one as this is a charity event.

I am quite prepared for this race as I managed to jog at least twice prior to the event albeit for only 4.2km each time. I think I was slightly faster than last year but the time still should be more than 19 minutes. I had forgotten to stop the stopwatch after crossing the finishing line. I had a better timing because there were fewer participants and I was not blocked - as usual I would start from the back.

I finished 5th which was very good for me. The winner was just too good. Great potential to don national colours in future if well groomed. One good thing about this race is the sportsmanship shown by the competitors especially in Category A. The poor runners were misled by the marshall, robbing them the chance to win.

The race winners showed true sportmanship by giving way to the 'losers'. He knows they were faster and deserved the 1st prize but lose out due to the the mistake of the road marshall.

I take my hat off to Mr Wong. Winning is not everything...
