The Edge - Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Rat Race®

Petaling Jaya, 20 June 2005 - The unique race for charity is back! The Kuala Lumpur Rat Race® returns on 9 August for its sixth year and will benefit ten charitable organisations as it did last year. This time, the event will be known as The Edge - Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Rat Race® , with Bursa Malaysia coming on board as co-organiser.

Donations collected from participating local and foreign companies in Malaysia will be channelled towards these beneficiaries involved in various causes. Last year, 75 teams took time out to run for a good cause and helped raise a record-breaking RM667,500.

The ten beneficiaries for this year's Race are:

1. St. Joseph's Home, Penang (affiliated to Catholic Welfare Services & formerly known as St. Joseph's Orphanage)
2. Persatuan Kanak-kanak Istimewa Kajang
3. Persatuan Mobiliti Selangor dan Kuala Lumpur
4. Asia Community Service, Penang
5. Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
6. Rumah Bethany, Perak
7. All Women's Action Society (AWAM), Petaling Jaya
8. Persatuan Kebajikan Pesakit HIV/AIDS Nurul Iman Malaysia (PERNIM), Ampang
8. Shelter Home for Abused Women and Children, Seremban
9. Persatuan Pendidikan Anak-anak Yatim Lipis, Pahang

The Kuala Lumpur Rat Race® has its origins from the Carey Wall Street Rat Race. It is an annual 4 km run through the New York City Wall Street area involving stock traders, bankers, investment counsellors, lawyers and accountants. The Carey Wall Street Rat Race provides these people an opportunity to blow-off steam after a hard day's work while doing their bit for charity.
