Penang Color Run 2014

Some 5,000 participants are expected to join the Penang Colour Run 2014 at Padang Polo on Dec 12. The 5km run organised by the Persatuan Mencegah Mangsa Dera Negeri Pulau Pinang is expected to raise RM250,000 for the centre.

Its organising chairman Kan Yean Tet said at each kilometre, the participants would be dabbed with rice-coloured powder.

“The 5km run will start and finish at the Padang Polo and pass through the Penang Municipal Park and Penang Botanic Gardens,” he told a press conference at the Information Centre in the Penang Municipal Park.

He added that there would be music and dances at each pit stop as well.

“Participants stand to win attractive prizes from the lucky draw worth RM15,000.”

The run is open to the public and the registration fee is RM50 per person. Admission is free for children below 13. Registration can be done online at www.mysport2u.com.my until Aug 31.

It is so much fun! Held in the Taman Perbandaran Pulau Pinang, the Relay starts at 6pm on Saturday and goes through the night till 10am on Sunday morning.

There is a track which teams and individuals take turns to walk, jog, run around for 16 hours to symbolise the journey of a cancer patient and the non-stop fight against cancer.

Supporting activities like games, stage entertainment, dancing, lots of food, exhibitions, health screenings, spot prizes, lucky dip, face painting etc... all add to the fun.

Heritage walk to raise funds for Red Crescent

HERITAGE enthusiasts can take part in the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Heritage Walk 2014 on June 22. The walk, jointly organised by the MRC Penang branch and Kwong Wah Yit Poh, will be held for the sixth year.

Event organising chairman Loh Nam Hooi said the walk this year would incorporate an additional 1.5km to the route.

“Heritage lovers can enjoy a 6.5km walk in George Town.

“The places they will pass by include the Yeap Kongsi, Poh Hock Seah Temple, Dr Sun Yat Sen Penang Base, Penang Islamic Museum, St George’s Church, Kuan Im Teng (Goddess of Mercy Temple), Sri Mahamariamman Temple and Masjid Kapitan Keling.

“We expect to raise more than RM150,000 for the MRC Penang branch to fund various humanitarian projects,” Loh said. He added that the walk was to mark the sixth anniversary of George Town being declared a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Loh said one of their humanitarian projects provided community-based ambulance service in three areas — Permatang Tinggi, Jalan Raja Uda and Batu Maung.

“We also need funds to train our members in first aid and rescue skills, disaster relief and management,” he added.

Registration forms for the walk are available at the MRC Penang branch at 26, Grove Road, and at the MRC north Seberang Prai Ambulance Service Office in Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth. Registration fee is RM30 per person.

Each participant will receive a Heritage Walk T-shirt which has to be worn during the walk in order for the participant to qualify for a lucky draw.

The forms should be submitted by June 20.

Well-wishers are also welcome to donate to the event and those who give a minimum of RM300 will be entitled to take part in a ribbon- cutting ceremony.

KUALA LUMPUR: Calling all "road warriors". Here's a chance for you to do your bit for a good cause while indulging in your passion for pounding the pavements.

The Omega Leo Club of Kuala Lumpur Unity is once again organising a charity run in aid of three organisations.

Its inaugural "Leo Run" last year raised RM12,000, which was divided evenly between the Community Service Centre for the Deaf (CSCD) and PJ Caring Home.

The second edition will be held on March 30, from 7am onwards, at Desa Park City in Kepong.

This time, the KL Unity Leos are targeting to raise RM15,000 to benefit three organisations: Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation, Kirtarsh Handicapped And Disabled Children's Home and Rumble on Jumble (Station).

Assisting the KL Unity Leos are the Alpha Leo Clubs of SMK Sultan Abdul Samad and SMK Jinjang.

Participants can choose between the 4.4km Family Run and 8.8km Fun Run .

There is early bird registration of RM25 and RM35 for runners below an between d above the age of 18 respectively.

Deadline is Feb 9, following which the fee will be RM40 for the two age groups.

The closing date for registration is March 9. Each paid participant will be entitled to a T-shirt and goodie bag.
