Where did i jog? - Jambatan Pulau Bunting, Yan.

Report: New Balance Klang Pacers 12km Run

By Aiman

Venue: Stadium Padang Sultan Sulaiman, Klang
Date: 15 November 2009
Distance: 12km

I think it has been a long time since I last run at Stadium Padang Sultan Sulaiman, Klang. The first time was way back in 1988 - Klang Container Terminal Quarter Marathon. Then, I finished in 45mins 55secs and I was 90th in the Men Open category.

This time the organizer started at the 'correct' time. When I was at the Setia Alam run, the race started 10 mins earlier. Heard that Centrino run was also earlier than scheduled. I was lucky to be at the venue at least a quarter to seven. After the warm up session, the runners were led to the starting line outside the stadium.

Since I had no target, I started from the back, running with Mr Tan Khee Meng and later caught up with Mr Kelvin Ng. Mr Kelvin Ng was my bench mark. He was consistent all year round, year in and year out. I have not been faster than him for this whole year. However, this time, I did overtake him and let him bit the dust.

I felt good and stopped only at the water stations. The first one to hydrate myself and the second one to consume power gel.

I finished the race in 62mins 12secs. I was 39th in the Men Junior category. My student, Muhammad Syafiq also did well in the race - finishing in 90 minutes considering he took almost two and a half hours in BHP Run early this year!

After having 'great' races since the Genting Trailblazer, I hope to continue with the good form and do well in one of my most favourite events - 12-hour walk in Putrajaya. Frankly, I really miss the Penang Starwalk. Had I known that Penang is organizing the 12-hour walk in January, I would have not signed up for the Putrajaya 12-hour walk.

Report: Putrajaya Global Diabetes Walk

By Aiman

Venue: In front of Palace Of Justive
Date: 14 November 2009
Distance: 5km

I came to know about the event through Starmetro dated 11 Nov. I called the number given on the following day. I was told that the closing date was 12th November. I asked the person in charge to fax me the form as my students would definitely join me.

However, she told me that they have achieved the targeted 1000 participants but allow me to join the walk - minus t-shirt. It was okay for me since the registration was free. She took down my particulars and given me my lucky number - 1032 and told me to see her personally to collect the number - Siti Nur Afza.

On the walk day, I made my way to Putrajaya. Meet her and took my number. No walking number or t-shirt for me. By 7.00 a.m., the warm up session began. It was quite on time. The flag-off should be at 7.00 a.m. After the warming up session, the walk began immediately. Just before flag-off, Siti Nur Afza passed me the t-shirt. To late to change as I was already at the starting line. I put on the walking number 566 and kept the t-shirt.

There was no good walkers around. So I thought I had a chance. I was told the winners will be given prizes. I was ahead by the 500m mark and was keeping up with teenaged joggers. Soon, by the time to make a U-turn, after 1km plus, the chasing pack overtook me.

I struggled a bit to keep up with them. Could still overtake some of them before the end of the 5km race. With my bib 566, I was mistaken for the 50 and above group. I was told I was number 2. I went to the 18-49 category and told them I am only 42!

Never mind about the prize. I was given certificate of participation and breakfast pack. Went to the bench to cool down. Then I saw Abdul Wahid. The announcer was telling that the 2nd person in 50 and above group was finishing and to my surprise, Abdul Wahid went for an extra loop. He must have been frustrated! He is certainly of no match to the others....

A few years back, I could not keep up with him too. Well, after two consecutive races - Genting Trailblazer and Malaysian Open Masters where participants show great sportmanship I had to contend with two consecutives poor sportmanship - SSL Diabtes Walk and Putrajaya Global Diabetes Walk.

Anyway, I still got a prize for diabetes quiz. Not too bad as I had to leave early. The lucky draw prizes were great but alas not my 'rezeki'. Went home on time to take my wife to UNITEN for her examination.

Report: Larian Jublee Emas PAS

Date: 20 November 2009
Venue: Padang Awam, Guar Chempedak, Gurun.
Distance: 7km

Just a simple event. Organized by political party - PAS, conjunction of their 50 years of anniversary. The Guar Chempedak branch organised a few events for 3 days such as ceramah, cooking, coloring, sukan rakyat including larian jublee emas and etc.

Maybe because of Friday, only one category offered and maybe not enough promotion done, so not many kaki turn-up but the pro... yeah! they always turn on the sonar.

Guar Chempedak not far. Only 20mins from my home. Took a leave today. 7am sharp..chow! Meet-up with PakYa, Adry and friends from Kulim. R.Muniady and the geng also turn-up at Padang Awam Guar Chempedak behind Balai Bomba.

Should start on 8:00am but extend and waiting for more participant until 8:40am. All of us paid and registered on that morning. Not many join this event. I guess between 50~70. The kaki.. less than 20, base on their apparel.

It is 7km running distance. From Padang Awam we heading to Yan, until Kolej Komuniti Guar Chempedak we turn left, run straight facing the Mount Jerai. There were green paddy field laying on left and right of us. It was nice weather that time. Some farmers were chatting, others busy appying pesticide.

Able to overtook 2 runners who ran ahead of me since 3km at 5km. Both gave me enough mental games. Nearly to let them go. Luckily they slow down once i overtook. Aim another runner when running along Kampung Kaki Gunung Jerai which lead us to main road.

Turn into main road the marshal noted my running position. Felt comfortable with it, i maintained the pace until crossed the finish line.

Got 10th. My time was 31.35mins.

During prize ceremony the organizer gave 50 hampers for top50. RM50 cash prize for 20th-4th and RM100, RM300, RM500 for respective position. Too bad no medal, even for top3.

Anyway.. Yeay! I got RM50! PakYa 17th.. lagi gumbira - first time got cash prize. "Berbaloi-baloi.." said the 6th winner, Adry.
