As you can see % of finishers is only 30%. I don't know whether the 70% is allow to reach Low's Peak or not. I think the organizer should extent the time limit another 30mins and standardize the cut of time to all category.

Meaning, from starting line to summit is 4 hours and no cut-of-time for descend - Of course everybody want to go home. And this time limit apply to all category.

The point is let more runners feel great and gumbira standing on the highest peak of Mount Kinabalu during Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon and jot down as finisher on official result.

Report: Merbok 10k

Almost a month i kept this photos+report. Too busy with office works, did system recovery for 2 weeks, going home late and miss my training nearly a week - duh! Wish i could do something else for a living.

Merbok 10km is one of two events of Lembah Bujang Jamboree. Another one is 40km MTB ride. This event held a week after aidilfitri. Some of the malays still 'heavy' with lemang, ketupat, rendang and kuih raya. On the otherside.. it's good to burn all those calories.

10 minutes before 7am, PakYa drove us (Adry, Alex and me) from my home to Merbok which located 10km. Start at 7:30am, gave us ample time to get prepare. This time PakYa not running, so besides being our driver, he also acts as coach and cameraman.

After flag off in Merbok town, we ran on a main road to Tanjung Dawai for 2.2km before turn left to kampung road. Between 2.2km - i ran with 5 runners of Chap Ayam Runners. They wearing nice blue "Chap Ayam Runners" vest.

The route was nice and scenic. We ran thru kampung houses on almost free traffic road. We were cheering by locals who enjoy their breakfast from stalls nearby. Aroma of roti canai and teh tarik so irresistible.

Passing on paddy fields. The paddy is ready to harvest. So the field looks like a golden crops wide open along 5km running. I'm still running slowly. Able to do two training run during raya holiday at Taman Tasik Taiping.

My buddy Thean Seng who always being my pacemakers, was ran far in-front. There were 210 runners join the running event while 233 registered for MTB riding. Maybe most of local runners/cyclist still on holiday mode or probably not ready for racing.

The finish line was not at starting line. Runners need to run another 2++km up to Merbok Museum Archeology. It was a climbing, not a single flat road. Glad i could still jog and crossing finish line without walking.

Overall this event was well organized. Enough road marshal patrolling the traffic. We had unlimited cold drinks from Vico and 888 Tea lorries including nasi lemak, soft drinks and mineral waters.

But I would like comment/highlight to all running event organizer, please set a start and finish line on same place. It's a problem to runners to walk back to their vehicle. 2km is not a walking distance! For MTB riders.. no issues. I know they provide a lorry but only available after finish all the programme around 12pm.

3 runners die in Detroit marathon

In the span of just 16 minutes, three men collapsed and died while running the 32nd Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon -- the first deaths in the event since 1994.

The first to collapse was Daniel Langdon, 36, of Laingsburg, at 9:02 a.m., said Rich Harshbarger, vice president of consumer marketing for the Detroit Media Partnership, which handles business operations for the Free Press and Detroit News. Langdon was on Michigan Avenue between the 11- and 12-mile markers.

Rick Brown, 65, of Marietta, Ohio, collapsed at 9:17 a.m. near where Langdon went down, Harshbarger said. And Jon Fenlon, 26, of Waterford collapsed at about 9:18 a.m., just after finishing the half-marathon in 1:53:37, he said.

Fenlon, whose Facebook page says he worked at the advertising firm Campbell-Ewald in Warren, graduated from Eastern Michigan University.

He made headlines in 2006 when he caught a home run ball hit by Magglio Ordoñez that sealed the Tigers' sweep of the Oakland A's -- sending the team to the World Series, said friend Jenny Wroblewski.

Family members declined to comment Sunday, saying they were too distraught.

Friends and family of Langdon could not be reached for comment; Brown's family declined to comment.

Deaths at marathons are rare. Minneapolis cardiologist Kevin Harris presented a study this year at the American College of Cardiology's 58th Annual Scientific Session showing the death rate for marathons was 0.8 per 100,000 participants.

Sunday's fatalities were the first in the race since 1994, when veteran runner Samuel Grafton, 42, of Troy, died of a heart attack at the 22-mile mark. Grafton's death was the only other recorded death in the race's history.

The deadliest day of running occurred during the 2008 Great North Run half marathon in England in 2005, when four male runners died on a warm and humid September day.

"It's important to emphasize the rarity of it because far more people have health benefits from the sport than these type of issues occurring," said Keith Hanson, coach of Hansons-Brooks Distance Project, an elite running club based in Rochester Hills.

Hanson, who has attended hundreds of marathons, said he thought the weather didn't contribute to the deaths.

National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Considine said at 7 a.m. the temperature at City Airport was 28 degrees with a cloudless sky. By 9 a.m., the temperature was 34.

Marathon doctors and race officials said rapid, state-of-the-art resuscitation was provided to the three runners who died. There were 14 doctors on the event's medical team of more than 60 health workers, said Dr. Jenny Atas, an emergency physician from Detroit Receiving Hospital, who directed the medical team.

Runners also sign a medical release form.

When a runner, believed to be Langdon, collapsed, three spectators began administering CPR and stayed with him until help arrived.

"We did everything we could," said one spectator, a nurse, who asked not to be identified because she wanted to remain private. "I want the family to know that."

Steve Corcoran, 62, of Farmington Hills and his daughter, Maureen Bauschke, 27, of Kalamazoo put a coat under Brown's head, as they and other spectators shielded him from runners.

Jim Young, 60, director of the 5K and half marathon portion of the race, stood over Fenlon as medical workers performed CPR. Young held out his arms, blocking Fenlon from other runners.

"I don't think they really knew," Young said.

Report: Borneo International Marathon 2009

By Aiman Cheah Tiong Chap

Venue: Likas Stadium
Date: 11October 2009
Time : 6.00am
Distance: 10km

This is my first race outside Peninsular Malaysia. It should have been the second if my plan for the Press Run in Kuching had materialised last year. Anyway, I hope it won't be the last. I am still looking forward for Gold Coast Airport Marathon. But then, I not really looking forward for a run, more on the walk. Hopefully, the organizer will change back the 5km walk this year to their usual 7.5km walk.

My college room mate had done a marvellous job, making my trip to Kota Kinabalu an memorable one. He helped to book the hostel and fetched my family from the airport and lastly, took us for a spin on Sunday before we flew back to "Malaya".

The 10km race started on time at 6.00 a.m. I had hoped to do around 50 minutes but that was a tall order. Only ran 8km on Sunday, 4 Oct. Swam 2000m on Wednesday and 2250m on Thursday. Planned to run 10km on Friday but wife had fever and sore throat due to dust allergy - there was renovation work at her work place.

I did not really feel tired, but a bit of breathless because of wind on my upper abdomen. Could be due to the chicken rice which I took for dinner. Vineger was used for the chilly sauce. Started with a steady pace but stopped only after 11 minutes and I actually stopped at an interval of every 2-3 minutes until the end of the race. Reached the 5km mark (I guess) when we made the U-turn. I clocked 27 minutes plus. So, I was quite confident to complete the run within an hour. I crossed the finishing line in 56 mins 46 secs. My position was 54. Unbelievable. In KL, with that kind of time, it would be outside 200.

My daughter and son took part in the fun run. Being the youngest, my son naturally finished last. My daughter being among the eldest should have the upperhand. However, family bond is stronger than the position. She waited for her brother before running back to the finshing line. All participants were given BIM Badge and treated to bananas and watermelon. They were also given RM10 mothercare voucher (forgot to give to me friend before I return to KL)

I must say that I like the race and would probably come back again in future.
