Report: MS Day Walk

MS stands for multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, but it can affect younger and older people too.

Almost twice as many women have MS than men. A substance called myelin protects the nerve fibres in the central nervous system. In MS, your immune system, which normally helps to fight off infections, mistakes myelin for a foreign body and attacks it.

This damages the myelin and strips it off the nerve fibres, either partially or completely, leaving scars known as lesions or plaques.

It has been almost a month from my last 'competitive' run - Jogathon Warisan. It has also been 10 days after suffering from stroke. It is quite frustrating to have a DNS - Negeri Sembilan Masters...

I have not fully recovered but I take the opportunity to walk with my children.....quite bored to be sitting at home all the time.

Misi Menawan Gurun Sahara

SEPANG 13 Mei - Pelari solo wanita negara, Suwaibah Muhammad Nasir hari ini selamat tiba ke tanah air selepas berjaya menamatkan misi menawan Gurun Sahara sejauh 1,111 kilometer (km) dengan jayanya.

Ketibaan Suwaibah disambut oleh keluarga dan ahli Pergerakan Puteri UMNO Cawangan Seputeh.

Menurut Suwaibah, kejayaan menawan Gurun Sahara amat bermakna dalam dirinya dan berharap ia menjadi kebanggaan kepada rakyat Malaysia.

Kejayaan ini juga, saya hadiah kepada Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak sempena Ulang Tahun UMNO Ke-66, ini merupakan kejayaan anak Melayu yang sentiasa menyokong apa jua agenda kerajaan.

Saya juga ingin mengucapkan jutaan terima kasih kepada rakyat Malaysia dan penaja yang sentiasa berdoa demi kejayaan ini," katanya ketika ditemui Utusan Malaysia sejurus tiba di Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa
Kuala Lumpur (KLIA), di sini hari ini.

Suwaibah berjaya menyelesaikan misi menakluk Gurun Saharanya pada 8 Mei lalu pada pukul 11.30 malam waktu Malaysia setelah menyelesaikan misi lariannya merentasi gurun terpanas di dunia itu sejauh 1,111 kilometer.

Misi menawan Gurun Sahara yang bermula 7 April lalu mengambil masa selama 32 hari melibatkan laluan dari Aswan ke Luxor sejauh 179km, Luxor-Sohag-Assyut (221km), Assyut-Al-Minya-Gaza-Kaherah (318km) dan Kaherah-Suez sejauh 125km.

Menurut Suwaibah, sepanjang menjayakan misi tersebut, banyak dugaan melanda, namun semua itu tidak sedikit pun mematahkan semangatnya.

Antara cabaran paling sukar ialah semasa berdepan dengan cuaca tidak menentu termasuk berlari pada suhu 40 darjah Celsius dan ribut pasir. 

Berkat usaha saya dan tujuh ahli pasukan lain kami berjaya menamatkan misi ini walaupun pergi ke sana dengan serba kekurangan," katanya.
 
Selain itu, katanya, pihak pengurusan Larian Sahara kini dalam perancangan untuk memohon supaya misi tersebut diletakkan ke dalam rekod dunia kerana beliau merupakan wanita pertama yang berjaya menawan Gurun Sahara dengan jarak 1,111km.
 
Dalam pada itu katanya, pihak pengurusan misi Larian Sahara sehingga kini juga masih menanti tajaan yang sebelum ini dijanjikan oleh penaja.

Dear Friends,

Persatuan SLE Malaysia (PSLEM) hopes that you, your family and friends can come and walk in support of Lupus patients at Walk-a-Payung 2012, this Sun, 20 May, starting from Tropicana Medical Centre in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya.

For your information, PSLEM provides social and psychological support and financial assistance to people suffering from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), or Lupus for short, an auto-immune disorder in which the patient's body produces antibodies that attack his/her own tissues.

PSLEM is targeting for 1500 participants to walk with opened umbrellas on 20 May (in conjunction with World Lupus Day 2012) to create public awareness on this lesser-known disorder and to raise funds for joint replacement and cataract operations for needy SLE patients (the side-effects of their steroid medication). The umbrellas are to show that SLE patients have to avoid too much sun, which can trigger a relapse.

Time
Registration starts 7.00am, together with free health checks and Food & Fun Fair. Walk starts 8.30am.
 
Route
A 3.7-km walk starting from Tropicana Medical Centre (TMC) in Kota Damansara. For those who are not familiar with Kota Damansara, TMC is after Sunway Giza Shopping Mall if you are coming from the LDP. It's next to SEGi University College.

How You Can Help
1) Collect donations with our donation cards totalling at least RM50 and come on 20 May to register, collect your t-shirt & umbrella and walk. Call 03-7957 7672 for donation cards.

2) Visit our website www.lupusmalaysia.org for online registration and payment (RM50 per person) and come on 20 May to collect your t-shirt & umbrella and walk.

3) Companies that donate a minimum of RM1,000 can send your company team to walk with your corporate t-shirts and banner.

All donations are tax deductible. Walkers get a t-shirt, umbrella, breakfast, and goodie bag, and will be eligible for lucky draw & fun quiz prizes.

First time listen to Gary Moore somewhere in late 80. It was Wild Frontier album. Introduced by my bro. Had headbanging together while songs played by Telefunken stereo. Usually i skip track #3, the rest... goyang kepala. Especially track #4 and #6.

I guess I'm too old for downhill ran like I did in Penang International Hiking. Already 2 weeks my knee still not doing well. I did run+walk+run+walk on both days.

Report: Dnonce Penang International Hiking Challenge 2012

Same route as I did Cendana Hikathon, Penang Biathlon 2006 and Penang Biathlon 2007. Started at Taman Belia, heading to Moon-Gate (a few hundred metre before Botanical Garden) and start hiking up-hill to Cendana Hill

Still got no bib/register a week before race. Registration already closed since 12 April. Called organizer and merayu - not a chance. Registration already reach quota she said.

Two week before away to Sabah Adventure Challenge, I still thinking about the registration. Afraid that my legs kaput and my RM60 fee gone. Fortunately a week after SAC, kaki sudah ok and terbakaq for another race.

Thanks to Cikgu Chan Kian Teck a runner from Kampar, Perak. he unable to take part and sold his veteran bib+tee to me. Yey!

Passing Moon-Gate, we started hiking. Try ran but last only a few staircase. + runners 'traffic jem'. Another excuse to me for not running :) Jadi sayur..



Until top of Cendana Hill.. Descending. Hilang lenguh pinggan. Start running, jumping and sliding downhill.. Huih syiok lari turun bukit... but lutut kena kerja keras sikit. Sayur back and disayur by 3 female. Actually I gave a way for them - lady first :)

With LunarGlide II (not a trail shoes), I crossed finish line in 1:22.12. The last top10 Men International Open category did 53mins
